Why Hijri and Gregorian durations differ

The number of days between two dates is always the same, but splitting it into years and months depends on the calendar: Hijri months are 29 or 30 days and Hijri years 354 or 355 days. We use the real Umm al-Qura month lengths instead of assuming 30 days per month, the most common mistake in manual calculations.

Adding days to a date

Need the end date of a 30, 60 or 90 day period, such as a visa, notice period or contract? Enter the start date and the number of days in the second tool and you get the resulting date in both calendars with its weekday. Choose “Subtract” to go backwards. To switch any date between calendars, use the date converter.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the difference between two Hijri dates?

Set both fields to “Hijri” and enter the dates. You get the duration in Hijri years, months and days using the real length of each Umm al-Qura month, plus the total days.

Is the start day included in the day count?

The main count excludes the start day (like an age). We also show the count including both ends, useful for leave periods or contracts.

Can I mix a Hijri and a Gregorian date?

Yes, each field has its own calendar switch.

What date is 90 days from today?

Use “Add or subtract days” below the calculator: it starts at today with 90 days, so the answer is already shown in both calendars.

How do I do this in Excel?

For Gregorian dates use =DATEDIF(A1,B1,"d") for days, or "y" and "ym" for years and remaining months. For Hijri dates this tool is safer, as Excel may not match Umm al-Qura.
